Schedule:
Job Type: Full-time
Expected hours: 35 – 55 per week
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
• Some weekends as needed
Work Setting:
• On-site field work and in-office
• Residential and/or commercial job sites
• Outdoor work in various conditions
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a gate technician or in a similar role involving automated systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and mechanical components.
- Familiarity with various brands and models of gate operators and access control devices.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in welding and fabrication.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in low-voltage electrical work or equivalent.
- Experience with programming access control systems (keypads, intercoms, card readers, etc.).
- Familiarity with network-based gate systems and remote access technologies.
- CDL or ability to operate light machinery (e.g., skid steers, trenchers).
Job Summary:
Thomas Fence is seeking a skilled Automated Gate Technician to install, maintain, and repair automated gate systems for residential, commercial, and industrial clients. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused attitude. This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of automated gate systems and access control solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation:
- Install automated gate systems, including motors, access control devices, and safety mechanisms.
- Configure wiring, programming, and integration of gate systems with access control and security systems.
- Conduct quality assurance tests to ensure proper functioning and alignment of gate components.
2. Maintenance & Repair:
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and programming issues in automated gate systems.
- Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication, alignment, and safety checks.
- Respond promptly to service calls and troubleshoot system malfunctions efficiently.
3. Technical Expertise:
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Stay updated on the latest technologies and products in automated gate systems and access control.
- Ensure all installations and repairs comply with safety and industry standards.
4. Customer Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide technical advice.
- Educate clients on system operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to maintain client satisfaction and build trust.
5. Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to company safety policies and OSHA regulations during all tasks.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures on job sites.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor throughout the day.
- Capability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces when needed.
