Thomas Fence is hiring a Material Handler / Yard Associate who is ready to do more than just move materials—we’re looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career in operations, inventory management, and leadership.
This role starts in our yard and warehouse but is designed as a clear path to a Material Manager position. If you’re dependable, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow, we will provide the training and opportunity to advance.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: From $18-$25 per hour depending on experience.

Expected hours: 35 – 55 per week

• Some weekends as needed
Work Setting:
• On-site shop/yard work

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or yard environment (or willingness to learn).
• Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 80 pounds) regularly.
• Knowledge of safe material-handling practices and procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong work ethic and reliability.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Forklift certification is highly desirable.
• Experience in the fencing, construction, or related industry.
• Familiarity with inventory management systems.
• Basic understanding of warehouse or inventory operations.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Comfortable with repetitive tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
• Capability to operate heavy equipment safely in tight or challenging spaces.
• Load and unload trucks, trailers, and delivery vehicles using forklifts and other equipment.
• Accurately pick, stage, and prepare materials for outgoing deliveries and job sites.
• Ensure materials are properly stored and organized in designated areas to maximize efficiency.
• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Conduct pre-operation inspections of equipment and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
• Adhere to safety guidelines for equipment usage to prevent accidents or damage.
• Assist in tracking inventory levels, conducting regular counts, and reporting discrepancies.
• Monitor material usage and communicate low stock levels to the Warehouse Manager.
• Label and organize materials according to company standards for easy identification.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the yard, warehouse, and loading areas.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks to ensure the workspace is functional and safe.
• Dispose of waste materials according to company and environmental guidelines.
• Work closely with installation crews and the operations team to fulfill material requests.
• Assist with incoming shipments, verifying quantities and inspecting materials for damage.
• Support special projects and other operational needs as assigned by the Warehouse Manager.
